Seven Nights of Christmas • Dec.19

A light heat on Beth’s cheeks woke her up, the 8 o’clock sunlight touches her face. As she slowly get up from her bed she notice some balloons from the corner and in that instance she knew it was not a dream.

Busy on the desk just a couple of feet from Beth’s bed Camille is trying to contact almost everyone on her phonebook, texting them about the scheduled party this coming Christmas for Beth.

“Good morning Mommy…” a joyful greeting from Beth as she hugged her mother surprise.

“Good morning my baby… How’s my twelve-year-old-baby’ sleep?”

Happiness draws on Beth’s face, “I’m twelve…”

“Yes and later this evening some of your classmates and teachers would come visit you and they’ll be staying for your thirteenth birthday!” says Camille as she wriggle Beth’s cheeks, “my pretty baby…” Then she checks her wristwatch and turn again to her daughter, “well it’s time for some Vitamin D, let’s take a little walk outside…”

While Miguel and his daughter is currently on a couture shop where Mika got her gown when she celebrated her eighteenth birthday.

Mika got her father’s attention, “Pa, do you think it’s a good idea bringing Auntie Jacky to Beth?”

“That’s also what I’m…” pause, “well, maybe your mother would make this easy for Beth,” Miguel then smiled.

Beth refused from sitting on a wheelchair she insisted walking as this would make her stronger. This is tough for Beth since she’s getting a hard time now on walking alone.

Walking along the garden of the hospital something got the little girl’s attention a crying child on his mother lap, the boy’s skinny body is like longing for food.

Camille, though she didn’t pay much attention to the cry of the boy since she’s carefully supports her daughter as they walk, “let’s take a break on the bench.”

Miguel then unbox the dress, he was amazed on how the gown is made, imagining how beautiful his daughter would look like when Beth finally wear the dress. On the same moment, Mika gaze at the lovely gown Miguel is holding, she cannot hide the excitement she’s feeling for her sibling.

“Baby…” Camille catches Beth’s attention, “are you okay?” worried on how Beth lose the aura of happiness that time.

“Is he going to be fine?” asked Beth while staring on the kid he was looking a while ago.

Camille then took a while to peak on what actually Beth was referring to, and as she see the boy, the one who’s still crying she don’t know how can she answer her daughter’s question.

“He looks very sick,” add Beth.

She was surprised on her daughter’s reaction about the boy, she can’t help but say to herself that while looking to Beth, ‘you’re also sick, a lot more ill than the boy you are staring at but you still manage to care for him?’

Beth then turns to her mother, “tomorrow’s my fourteenth birthday…”

Camille strained to smile and answers her daughter, “yes, do you want anything for your tomorrow’s birthday?”

“I don’t want to celebrate it alone, not with just ‘us,’ maybe we can share it to other people…” Beth replied, “…with other kids,” she added.

Eman on the other hand is on his way to Auntie Jacky’s place, he’s about to invite her to go to the hospital to do some favour for Beth’s expected debut this Christmas.

And then the night came, present are Beth’s classmates when she’s still on school and some of her teachers including Ma’am Joy, Beth’s last adviser. Beth was surrounded by her friends from her school singing her a birthday song while waiting for her to state her wish for her thirteenth birthday.

That night, Camille tells Miguel her late conversation with Beth this morning.

“Here comes our present…” said Mika while giving Beth a wrapped big box, when Beth immediately grabbed the gift Mika put the cake away from the table and instantly sliced it for everyone.

Beth was helped by her classmates unwrap the present and the next thing their looking at is a beautiful dress of pink and sequins.
